Charge
The Admissions and Recruitment Committee (ARC) is a committee of the Assembly of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC). The ARC supports AAVMC鈥檚 Strategic Plan Goal 2, to identify, inspire and recruit qualified and diverse applicants who will serve as the future veterinary medical workforce; and Goal 5.2, to promote careers in veterinary and biomedical research among students, applicants, and pre-applicants. The committee is charged to:
- Review and implement evidence-based applicant-centric admissions practices and policies, embedded within the framework of appropriate pedagogical principles, and analyze student selection outcomes.
- Conduct ongoing review and identification of enhancements for the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS), including operational admissions issues.
- Identify and manage activities related to pipeline, K-12 (and other), outreach & development, enrollment management, and research/studies related to veterinary school recruitment, admission and activities that contribute to the diversification of the applicant pool.
- Develop and review Pre-Vet / Pre-Health advisor resources, including toolkits and webinars.
- Develop program content and recommend speakers on subjects related to admissions for the 探花系列Annual Meeting in consultation with the Annual Conference Planning Committee and 探花系列staff.
Composition
The ARC is composed of members that are involved in the admissions process, including Admissions Directors, Associate or Assistant Deans of Student Affairs or Academic Affairs, or others that have experience and expertise in this area.
The ARC Leadership Group is composed of five representatives, at least one of which represents an international member of AAVMC. Members for the ARC Leadership Group are nominated through the 探花系列annual call for volunteers and appointed by the 探花系列president. Members serve a term of three years, and may be reappointed once, for a maximum of two terms (six years). The ARC Leadership Group recommends to the 探花系列president the appointment of one member to serve as chair-elect each year. The chair-elect serves for one year and then becomes the chair.
The ARC also includes a National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) liaison. The liaison represents the NAAHP and its membership to 探花系列and facilitates an exchange of mutually beneficial information. Liaisons are volunteer NAAHP advisor members who are appointed by the NAAHP Board of Directors.
The ARC may develop subcommittees with whom they would work closely to move forward initiatives that support the 探花系列Strategic Plan.
